Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown was recently arrested and charged with criminal speeding on Wednesday Morning. Arizona’s Department of Safety Spokesman Bart Graves confirmed to the media that Brown was arrested at 7:05 A.M. in North Phonix and was booked in the Maricopa County Jail. This comes just months after Brown was traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the Arizona Cardinals in a trade that took place during the 2022 NFL Draft. Brown was set to be the Cardinals’ primary receiver coming into the season. With Deandre Hopkins also suspended to open the year, it would have been a perfect opportunity for Kyler Murray and Brown to reignite some of the on-the-field chemistry we saw between the pair at Oklahoma if Brown does face a suspension. The Cardinals released a statement saying, We are aware of the situation regarding Hollywood Brown and have reported it to the NFL office as required. We will comment further as appropriate”.
Possible Suspension Length?
Brown will only be charged with a misdemeanor for this offense. However, with it already being in the news and the Cardinals already reporting it to the league office, Brown will be facing a suspension. Due to it just being a speeding offense and not a D.U.I. and no one was harmed, it likely will not be a harsh suspension if he even gets a suspension at all. The suspension will likely not occur, but if it does it will only be one game.
What This Means For the Arizona Cardinals
This news will not cause any major changes or issues for the Cardinals. Even if the league hands down a one-game suspension to Brown, they are playing the Kansas City Chiefs. This is a game that they will likely come into being underdogs whether Brown is in the lineup or not. Even if Brown is given an unlikely one-game suspension, he will still have five games as the Cardinals’ number one receiver before Hopkins returns from his suspension.
This will be a very exciting stretch of the season for Brown. Up to this point of his career, Lamar Jackson has been his primary quarterback. Jackson is not known as the most talented passer in the league although not being below average. However, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is an objectively better passer and throws a better deep ball. This is where Brown’s game will reach a new level. He will finally be able to put his game-breaking speed to use and make the deep connections we saw between him and Murray during college. Once Hopkins returns to the field, Brown will make for one of the best second options in the league. With a handful of other very serviceable receiving options on the roster, Murray and the Cardinals are coming into the season with one of the most feared passing attacks in the league. Brown is poised to be one of the leading efforts in the passing game. Look for this to be his best season yet from a statistical standpoint.
