The Philadelphia Eagles are traveling to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions in their opening game of the season. Coming into the season, it appears that these teams will have vastly different years. The Eagles are shooting for another playoff push after the acquisition of A.J. Browns and a great draft class. This could be a breakout year for quarterback Jalen Hurts, and Philadelphia has a lot of upside coming into the 2022 season. On the flip side, the Lions are projected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this year. They are still stuck in a rebuild and are looking to tank this year to get a high draft pick. This year’s quarterback class appears to be very promising with players like Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud rising to the top of the class. As a result of possible franchise quarterbacks being at the top of next year’s draft class, the Lions have a perfect reason to tank this year, as they are already a very young team that does not have much NFL experience.
Eagles Look to Welcome A.J. Brown to the Team
The Eagles are coming into the game as four-point favorites over the Lions. However, there is a good chance that they end up winning the game by a much wider margin than four. As previously mentioned, Hurts is primed for a breakout season and he has the weaponry around him to do it. The duo of Hurts and Brown could end up budding into one of the best in the league this season. While the Eagles do not have much of a running back room, Hurts is a dual-threat quarterback that can pick up the slack in the running game on his own. Along with this, the Eagles’ defense has also made some upgrades over the season. They beefed up their defensive line and selected Jordan Davis with their first-round pick, and he could have a huge impact the second that he touches the field. As this game likely will not be a close one, the Eagles will likely use it to try to get Hurts and Brown comfortable playing together.
Lions Look to Start the Season With an Upset
The Detroit Lions are facing off against a very talented Eagles team. They are outmanned almost across the board and it will be a very uphill battle to take home the game. However, being underdogs is not new to them, and it appears that this Lions team has made a big jump from last season. Specifically, it appears that the defense has made massive improvements from last season, and running back Deandre Swift is looking to have a breakout season. Although they are missing a lot of talent at very important positions, the Lions have a lot of grit to them and love playing with the underdog mentality. This would be a great opportunity to make a big statement in week one, however, it is not very likely to happen.
